The heart behind Guldhart.

Interview by the Heart-Lung Foundation.

When André was nine, he was about to become a big brother for the first time. Excited and proud, he told his classmates unaware that his sister’s arrival would shape his life in ways he couldn't yet imagine.

Isabelle was born with a congenital heart defect called aortic stenosis. At just four weeks old, she underwent heart surgery. It was a time filled with questions, fear, and quiet hope. But the surgery went well. Isabelle grew up, lived fully, and continues to do so proof of what skilled care can make possible.

Years later, André’s second sister, Alice, was born with the same heart condition, though less severe. These personal experiences left a mark. The heart carved into every Guldhart sculpture isn’t just part of the design it’s a tribute. A symbol of life’s fragility, but also of resilience, strength, and care.

Through his art, André wants to raise awareness. Heart defects affect many, and knowledge saves lives. Everyone should learn CPR. Because sometimes, knowing what to do can change everything.

The photo above is from a family album. It shows André beside Isabelle shortly after her surgery a quiet moment between siblings, and the beginning of a bigger story.
